Updated Passive House Series

Now available as on-demand courses presented by the Passive House Network, this three-part series covers the benefits of the Passive House principles. Learn about cost cutting, reducing embodied carbon methods in building materials and more.

Residential Electrification with the Passive House Standard (part 1)

The Passive House Standard encourages all-electric building design and construction in homes and buildings, which can help achieve the widescale decarbonization required for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Experts from The Passive House Network will demonstrate how Passive House principles align with California’s decarbonization goals. This session will cover the technology options for all-electric homes and outline the many reasons to electrify with the Passive House Standard for better health, comfort, and cost benefits.

The Economics of Residential Passive House (part 2)

Central to achieving the Passive House Standard is design and construction principles that achieve high indoor health and comfort levels with minimum energy consumption through high-performance building enclosures, downsized heating/cooling systems, and balanced fresh air ventilation. This course will make the economic case for building Passive Houses. Experts from the Passive House Network will show how Passive House principles affect a project's economics, demonstrate ways to reduce project costs, and how Passive House improvements in durability and thermal comfort are also likely to contribute to financial value. While these investments to meet the Passive House Standard require incremental cost compared to code-built construction, this session will present case studies of successful Passive House projects that overcame this perceived cost barrier.
